The gap between the wealth of white Americans and African Americans has grown. According to the Fed, for every dollar of wealth held by the typical white family, the African American family has only one dime. In 2004, it had 12 cents.

    The Raleigh Durham Chapter celebrated the holiday season with a visit from Mr. Danny Freeman. Our membership, and friends of the chapter listened to a wonderful presentation about spiritually based wealth building.

    The presentation created an energetic discussion during the Q&A section. Several members purchased multiple copies of Mr. Freeman’s book for gifts. Member Tommy McNeil was moved to purchase additional copies of Freeman’s book for two Keenan-Flagler(UNC) MBA students.

    Raleigh/Durham, NC – February 23, 2007 - The RDU chapter of the National Black MBA Association will inaugurate it’s newly elected President, Brett Chambers at it’s 18th Annual Open House on February 23rd 2007 at the Marriott Hotel at Research Triangle Park. In this role, Mr. Chambers will serve as chief spokesperson for the Chapter and will be responsible for programming, membership growth & retention and fiscal stability.

    The purpose of the Open House each year is to attract new members who may not be familiar with the chapter and to provide information on upcoming events such as programs, conferences and networking events. This event will also allow current and prospective members to become associated with Black professionals in the Triangle. Light refreshments will be served starting at 6 o’clock pm.

    Bio for Brett Chambers

    Brett Erik Chambers is a Lifetime member of the National Black MBA Association, Inc. He was the Vice President of Administration in 2006 where he performed such duties as trouble shooting and problem solving in conjunction with aiding the President in the overall administration of the Chapter. As President of the organization, Chambers will strive to make the RDU MBA “Relevant” to the Triangle and its rich black business history.

    Professionally, Mr. Chambers is an Instructor at North Carolina Central University. He teaches Mass Communications and Education Technology Courses. Brett spends a great deal of time contributing to efforts that address the diversity of learning styles and how technology can be used to close the Achievement Gap of African American Children. Mr. Chambers’ 24 month term as President of the Raleigh Durham Chapter, NBMBAA began on January 1, 2007.

    Chambers is a husband, parent and media literacy advocate. He has spent most of his adult life finding and presenting positive images of people, especially people of color, on television, radio, film, recording, or the classroom. Chambers was an award winning television producer (WTVD-ABC11), winning awards for programs addressing education, health, and children’s issues. He is a graduate of Duke University’s Terry Sanford School of Public Policy, and earned his Masters in Education Technology from North Carolina Central University’s School of Education. He is a contributor to the book How We Got Over: Testimonies of Faith, Hope, and Courage, and is also a contributing writer to the Independent Weekly on his favorite subject, Music.

    In 2004, Chambers was inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists’ Region IV Hall of Fame. He was recognized for his cumulative body of work over his almost 30 year career in media, from his days in radio at Duke University to his teaching duties at North Carolina Central University.

    About the NBMBAA Inc. and the Raleigh Durham Chapter

    Established in 1970, the National Black MBA Association Inc., is a not-for-profit business organization with a mission to lead in the creation of economic and intellectual wealth for the black community. The local chapter strives to do this in the Research Triangle area through numerous community service projects, as well as partnerships with other local chapters of national organizations. This year the chapter has outlined a dynamic set of monthly programs that will not only enrich the knowledge base of the membership, but provide opportunities for scholarship, networking and growth for the community as a whole.

    The organization’s most prominent event is the Annual Conference and Career Fair. The Career Fair provides access to more than 300 major corporations and universities seeking quality talent.
